Yoder Insurance was organized as an independent insurance agency in the summer of 1979 on the second floor of a small Cape Cod house in Lewisburg, PA with Don Thomas as its president and Lanny Diltz as its first employee.  The main purpose for Yoder Insurance at that time was to write insurance business that Charles Yoder, a large successful captive Nationwide agent, was unable to place with Nationwide.  Charles’s Nationwide agency occupied the first floor of the house.   Elizabeth Yoder, Charles’s daughter-in law worked with him for several years under this arrangement until Charles retired.

In 1983 Elizabeth Yoder became president succeeding Mr. Thomas and the agency now occupied the entire building at 507 North Derr Drive Lewisburg and began writing personal lines auto, homeowners, life, and health insurance.  Methodically Yoder Insurance grew into other areas writing farm owners, small and mid-sized commercial accounts and specializing in writing insurance for local public school districts.

In 1986 Yoder Insurance purchased the Rakerd Agency of Lewisburg and gained several new companies and a book of new clients. Yoder Insurance realized steady growth through the 1980’s.

In May of 1990 Yoder Insurance opened a satellite office in Lackawanna County, Clarks Summit, PA.  The main agent and office manager was and still is Jill Barrasse, daughter of the Robert and Elizabeth Yoder.   It was not long after this that Robert Yoder, son of Charles Yoder, joined the agency alongside his wife, Elizabeth, in Lewisburg after a successful career as a custom homebuilder.

Through the next two decades Robert and Elizabeth Yoder along with Lanny and Jill built a very successful independent insurance agency with hard work and a strong commitment to customer service striving to build long lasting relationships.

In the summer of 2010 Robert and Elizabeth Yoder retired and sold their business of thirty years to partners Frank G. Pellegrino and Scott M. Johnson.

In the spring of 2015 Yoder Insurance purchased the insurance book of business of Booth & Deutsch in Danville and opened an office at their location under the Yoder Insurance name.

At the start of 2016 Yoder Insurance opened an office in Montoursville, PA to serve the insurance needs of Lycoming County.
